Shrimps & Shrimps

The Peak - Bubba Gump, Hongkong

Even though I have frequent Hongkong since I was a child, I could not recall having visited The Peak. So I welcomed the suggestion of going up to The Peak this last trip.  Nothing really great on top...mostly smog; the weather was foul - cloudy skies.

Hongkong skyline from The Peak.

Honestly, theres not much things to do at The Peak, quite boring infact, it was good that Bubba Gump came to the rescue (I remembered how I used to love dinning at Bubba Gump back when I was still in Manila, some 10 eon years ago). Seeing Bubba at The Peak was just perfect.

Having just finished breakfast, Sel & I decided to order something light.

Shrimper's Net Catch
(3/4 pound Peel n' Eat Shrimp Steamed in Beer.
Half in Garlic Spice & Half in Cajun Spice)

Shrimp Rigatoni
(Tender sauteéd Shrimp, Rigatoni, and fresh Spinach in
Sundried Tomato Pesto Cream Sauce, with fresh Parmesan Cheese.)

It was a relaxing experience with the shrimps that morning - as we were able to avoid the lunch crowd. Great!

I wonder when will Bubba come to Singapore? Hmm...

Express for Less

Dinner last night was never planned.  Did not have cash at the moment so we had to walk to an ATM machine near Chinatown and near the machine was an old coffeeshop.  There we found the express version of Astons.

The Express Menu Board

 The Tiny Express Kitchen

 Dishwashing Area

Black pepper chicken chop with mashed potato & veggies (S$5.90)

Pork chop with tasty rice & baked potato (S$8.50)

I thought the price was relatively cheap and is comparable to any western stall in a normal foodcourt. I guess this is the price you pay for - given the "coffeeshop" ambiance while sitting next to a bunch of one-leg-up-uncles. It was good nonetheless.

Cheap Thrills

California Pizza Kitchen (Singapore)

The night was all about having fun while spending less.  For a total of S$25.80,  "5-2-3" & I carbo-loaded ourselves during dinner time - thanks to CPK's 1-for-1 Pizza/Pasta Birthday Promotion.

Waiting...

Chicken and Shrimp Kung Pao Pasta

 Sicilian Thin Pizza

Complementary Birthday Ice Cream

After dinner, we decided to burn the calories by walking home from Orchard Road - aprox 3.17km.  It was a crazy idea but it was fun...now I know it can be done (not that I plan to do it again anytime soon) but it's just good to know - just in case! :)

Indeed a cheap & fun night!

Saturday Night Out!

It's a date! - a casual one at Dan Ryan's last Saturday evening. The Chimp was asked to be dressed properly that night so it must be an official date - "No shorts or flip-flops please!"

4 Fingers

Just when we thought we were full from dinner...

4 Fingers Bonchon Chicken recently opened a branch here in Singapore, originally from Korean Town in New York. It is best known for it's crispy fried chicken and was recently voted the Best Fried Chicken in America by GQ and Esquire Magazine.

...and so my sister really insisted that we try it.  According to her, this is the kind of food that I would like - "Mechie's Food".

I must admit that it really tastes good, crispy skin and tender chicken.  It is such a shame that I could not eat a lot as I was too full from dinner.  I should be going back really soon...

Fridays on Sundays

Deprived from having TGIFs for almost 5 years in Singapore, finally they opened one! The only bad thing is that they have changed their menu and removed one of my favourite dish - Mushroom Chicken & Mushroom. Nevertheless, I did enjoy my first Fridays encounter here in Singapore.

Buffalo Wings
Traditional upstate New York-style chicken wings marinated in their own spicy sauce, then deep-fried. Served with crisp celery sticks and tangy Bleu Cheese dressing.

Dragonfire Chicken
Rich, creamy fettuccine Alfredo, topped with a New Orleans-style blackened chicken breast, fresh tomatoes and green onions.

Parmesan-Crusted Chicken Quesadillas
Flour tortilla is packed with sauteed chicken, tomato-basil mix, beef bacon and oozing with Monterey jack cheese. Coat it with Parmesan and pan-fry it to a crispy, golden brown, then drizzle it with balsamic glaze.

I was really satisfied with my lunch, food was good and the ambiance was great and relaxing.

Have you gone to Singapore's Fridays lately? I would love to hear other recommended dishes..
