Practice Golf: More Than Just Wacking It!

In my previous post, I have talked about my visit at the newly renovated POH BRO Driving Range - equipped with the latest modern technology/concept of range practice. This continuation will talk more about the details and mechanics of the range's new concept.

Traditionally, we would go to the range to hit some balls, practice our swing and distance per club. Sometimes we would go a little bit further and set imaginary targets to practice ball placement - and most of the time the gauge for a "good" practice is only benchmarked by our own and sometimes our peer's visual perception with which lacks tangible substantial bearings.

Now, with the new concept at the POH BRO range in place, it aims to re-invent the old approach in range practice - making it a wee little more exciting with the help of our modern technology today. It also tries to address the "Benchmarking" problems that we traditionally encounter.

So now the question is how?

Installed with the latest ball tracking technology. The counter issues you a bar-coded docket upon ordering your balls. You then scan the code to collect your balls, inside each ball contains a small micro-chip which then records the code - in effect all your balls are tagged with the same code number which is only unique to you.

After collecting your balls, you choose your bay. You will notice that there is a special computing machine on every bay. Using the same docket, you scan the code to the machine specific to your bay.

Remember that by the time you are ready to hit some balls, you would have completed all the steps towards being "connected". You and the balls and balls to the bay machine.

Noticed that the range is subdivided into different distance sections, each of which has multiple sensors installed. Aim to hit the ball into the target to get a specific score.

Check the score chart to aim for the maximum points. You can practice your shots in various distances.

Every time you land your ball into these sections, a score will be given to you, scores will then appear in your bay machine. Cool yeah?!

Now, the exciting part is that each bay can have up to four players. You can play with your friends and mates and turn your practice session into a friendly competition. If not, you can just simply use this technology to practice for accuracy with which you definitely need once you are on the course.

So if you want to have a different experience in the range and practice more accurately than just wacking the balls, visit this range and see if it fancy you. (I'm sure there are similar concepts in different parts of the world, it's just that I am probably so lame that I just saw it now! haha :P)
